After months of anticipation, Chick-fil-A Inc opened their first international location in one of the world’s greatest cities: Toronto, Ontario. The family owned restaurant boasts of being the home of the ‘original chicken sandwich‘ since the late 60’s. Even after two months of business, the restaurant continues to be a zoo, with lineups extending through the doors. I waited in line (and in the rain) for 30 minutes to test the sandwich.
The good
Chick-Fil-A has really good customer service which softened the experience of waiting for so long. Mobile workers took orders on tablets, so by the time I got to the cashier, my order was ready. I ordered a spicy chicken sandwich, their famous waffle fries, and a chocolate chip cookie.
The better
The entrĂ©e did not disappoint. The spicy chicken sandwich was delicious, moist, and fresh. The waffle fries were as advertised: crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. In addition, the fries were not overly greasy despite being fried in canola oil. This restaurant has now usurped Wendy’s as my “go-to”place for fast food and friendly service, even if I have to wait a little longer.

The ‘nah’
I went there for a chicken sandwich, but I was still excited to see a chocolate chunk cookie on the menu. (Of course I HAD TO buy it). Sadly, my postive impression of Chick-fil-A’s chicken sandwich does not extend to their chocolate chunk cookie. Just watch my live reaction after biting into it:
This cookie tries to be interesting with semi-sweet dark chocolate, milk chocolate, and even some oats. Unfortunately, it still came up short. The cookie was overly warm so the chocolate chunks were melting into an unflattering mess inside the packaging. The inside of the cookie was too gooey for my taste, and could have benefited from an extra 5 minutes in the oven. In addition, it was too sweet, something I believe is an overcompensation for the presence of the oats.
The verdict
While Chick-fil-A’s chicken sandwiches are memorable, their chocolate chunk cookie is forgettable. This is a cookie that is served in a high school cafteria, or at a canteen where children get excited to spend their pocket money. It is what you can expect from the low price and fair size: “nothing special“. The calories (at 350 per cookie) are rather high, but that is common place with fast food. If you insist on something sweet after eating a chicken sandwich, then it should be satisfactory.
